The Supremes went through several lineup changes before achieving international fame. Mary Wilson was a founding member and stayed with the group for 10 years, leaving in 1970. Florence Ballard, the original lead singer, was replaced in 1967 by Cindy Birdsong.

Diana Ross, the only original member still alive, left the group in 1970 to pursue a successful solo career. The Supremes continued on for a few more years with new members, but their success never quite matched their golden era with Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard.
